🚨 National Public Alerting System (NPAS): What’s Next?

Canada’s NPAS is under review. We’ve contributed detailed NPAS Review & Comments to ensure robust, community-tailored alerting for all Canadians—including those in remote and underserved areas.

  • Create a permanent, always-on CAP alert test signal.

  • Strict CAP X.1303 with multi-language Support, including Indigenous languages.

  • Low Power FM (LPFM) emergency radio service (e.g., 91.1 MHz) for remote communities.

  • Launch a Canadian-hosted, privacy-compliant reporting portal.

  • Establish a coordinated process for security vulnerability disclosures.

  • Modernize attachment and storage policies to prevent system overload.

  • Consider an official alert app to help users manage alert fatigue.

  • Maintain clear station accountability and operator training requirements.

🍁CRTC Discoverability Report – The CANCON Mystery

Getting clarity on Canadian Content (CANCON) is still a challenge! The CRTC and SOCAN aren’t making the official list easily available. This makes it harder for broadcasters to actively Support Canadian artists—and could even result in unfair accidental penalties. When asked, the only resource given was to reference an out-of-print paper book!

If broadcasters had access to this list as reported by CRTC – Nordicity Canadian Content Report they could play more Canadian content. Greater transparency would Support artists and stations alike!

🛡️ YG Security Update: Audit Helps Boost Cyber Defenses

Thanks to a thorough security audit by Yukon Government, our broadcast systems are stronger and more reliable. The review highlighted important vulnerabilities and areas for improvement behind the scenes, helping us implement lasting hardened security solutions back into our Open Source code.
